Danny Lee (b. 1992, Melbourne, Australia) is a contemporary abstract painter whose large-scale works bridge raw physical immediacy and emotional depth. Raised in Melbourne’s west, Lee was initially drawn to the freedom and spontaneity of street art. Over time, his practice has evolved beyond a pursuit of perfection toward embracing the raw, tactile, and imperfect. Working instinctively on raw canvas up to three meters tall, he constructs sculptural surfaces layered with heavy impasto, acrylics, charcoal, glossy finishes, and dripping paint inviting viewers to feel the raw energy and emotion infused into each piece.

Central to his visual language is a recurring motif of abstract winged figures with swirling, dispersing faces rendered in bold contrasts of rust, black, pink, yellow, and blue. Grounded in vivid childhood dreams of movement, pursuit, and transformation, Lee’s compositions explore the tension between structure and freedom. Presented in minimal floating frames or unmounted raw canvas, his monumental paintings invite an immersive physical presence.

Lee’s practice has earned recognition across notable platforms, including selection as a finalist in the Calleen Art Award and the Wyndham Art Prize. He resides and works in Melbourne, currently pushing the boundaries of his standard practice as he prepares a major solo exhibition for early 2027.
