Madeleine McKinlay
Painter
Madeleine McKinlay is a Brisbane-based creator of bold and distinctive artworks. She grew up in Brisbane as the youngest of five children in a time when kids hung out in the local park or someone’s backyard from sunrise to sunset. Her parents were happy as long as they were together and all five were home in time for dinner.
Growing up she always loved art; she was heavily inspired by her late mother Erin who loved to draw and paint. Madeleine has always had a flair for creativity and what colours work best together. She went on to study a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design at the Queensland College of Art/Griffith University.
Madeleine has had an interesting career to date. She worked as a designer in the advertising industry, marketed and sold fine paper and then moved into the finance industry where she worked for many years in various roles before stepping away to start a family. During these times Madeleine always used painting as her creative outlet.
After her corporate career, Madeleine really immersed herself in art and started to realise a long-held dream of becoming a full-time artist. Her first official artwork outside of family and friends was donated to raise money in 2018 for her son’s future primary school. From there she fielded interest from friends of friends and collectors.
As more and more interest grew in Madeleine’s work, she and her husband Daniel developed their online business and started selling Original Artworks and Prints. Her art business has continued to grow from there.
Madeleine paints loose, abstract expressionist style interpretations of the landscape – always featuring bright and bold colours. She generally paints Bush Landscapes, Beach Landscapes and what she likes to refer to as Furniturescapes - some works being more abstract than others. Madeleine predominantly paints larger scale works.
She sells artworks Australia-wide and internationally through galleries and directly through her website.
Madeleine’s artworks have been successfully sold at several Affordable Art Fairs over the years with The Toowoomba Gallery including fairs in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and more recently overseas in Singapore and Texas, USA.
